About Chris

Chris Wyant is the founder and head coach of Kong CrossFit. Starting CrossFit at the very first affiliate in the world (Seattle, WA) in 2004, Chris was part of a unique group taking part in a “ new underground style of training.” CrossFit has since exploded into a worldwide phenomenon anchored by the CrossFit games and thousands of affiliates worldwide. In 2008, Chris decided to join the fun and open his own CrossFit gym in Norwalk, CT. Since then, it has developed into the fastest growing and largest community of CrossFitters in the area.

Chris began coaching because he passionately believes in the life-changing benefits of functional fitness. His goal as a fitness coach is to inspire individuals to make long-term lifestyle changes, and he has found that CrossFit’s scalable intensity and commitment to functional movement makes it the perfect program for individuals of all ages and abilities. He fosters a positive training environment to help clients overcome self-doubt or perceived limitations to achieve their full potential.

A Message From Chris

At Kong CrossFit we teach people with a wide range of athletic abilities; complete beginners to professional athletes. If you’re physically gifted, almost any kind of training will work for you. For most of us however, details matter. As a coach, training non-experts is more challenging, more rewarding, and a lot more is needed. Elite athletes; I’m not going to change their life (maybe help them on their movement patterns and provide a training program). But helping somebody regain the ability to run or lift their kids or garden, or be able to ski again? That to me is a huge deal.

The things that I am most proud is the positive learning environment that we have created at Kong. Encouragement matters. Coaching matters. Being surrounded by examples you can relate to matters. We have an amazing community of like minded individuals in pursuit of better health, wellness, and fitness that all understand that we have to start from somewhere. When I coach an On-Ramp, I tell the class that everyone doing CrossFit all had a first session too. That seeing someone lift a heavy weight had to invest time to get to that point. CrossFit is not a miracle pill where you will suddenly wake up the next day and are fit – instead, it’s a journey that takes time and commitment. If you make that initial commitment, I guarantee you will see results and progress.
